Since the word Luddite means to deny or fear new technologies, we felt that this was a perfect logo for our utopia. Our Utopia is a village of no technology, we rely solely on the power of mouth to mouth communication. This logo shows that the most popular way of communicating in modern day society (Cell Phone) isn’t necessary and can be harmful to relationships, due to the lack of affection and real feelings that can’t be expressed through a text message.

Our slogan is “Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain”

That slogan was said by J K Rowling in an interview and sums up our village beautifully, the people of Luddite don’t have to worry about misspelling or computer and phones messing up our messages, we just say what we want to in person!

The word Luddite means do deny or fear new technologies, we felt that this was a perfect name for our utopia. Our Utopia is a village of no technology, we rely solely on the power of mouth to mouth communication.
Declaration of Luddite Independence
In a world where the ruthless faces of teenagers are buried in these tragic devices of technology, we, the people, seem to lose focus on what’s real and true in our lives. You’re one person on the internet, and different in real life. It is indeed extremely melancholy when you cannot carry on a conversation face to face anymore, as sending messages behind a screen is the “new thing”. In our society it is paramount we cease this constant use of technology and return to the times where times was right. Back to the good old fashioned place where technology wasn’t taking over our lives.
We have lost sense of quality time with friends and family because we are on our “phones” all the time. Even the mere thought of local face time is appalling, because rather than seeing these people in real life; you choose to see them through a screen. Where’s the sense of “face-to-face” anymore? Rather than enjoying time with a loved one, we are trapped behind a keyboard or a touch screen, with such awe that drool is trickling down our chins, and both our eyes and brains are rotting at the mere sense of staring at a computer or TV screen for more than an hour as countless hours pass on by.
It is imperative that we halt the overuse of technology for this great society of Luddite to be free and cheerful. For all of those people in current society who are lazy and whose lives are wasted because technology is an addiction, we stop it. We stop it for all those relationships that don’t work out via text messaging or internet use, or for all the misinterpreted messages. We stop the electronics for those getting hurt and cyber bullied, and for those who have a problem saying things in person. Finally, we stop this machinery for the sake of all those failing their exams, because of the distractions or procrastination with these devices, and for those getting mental illnesses because of too much electromagnetic wave to the brain.
Our society will take a stand against all the corruption in current society and reduce this unnecessary media and technology.

Utopian Animal

The animal that represents our Utopia is the Dolphin.  The Dolphin represents our Utopia for many reasons, some like respect, courage, its freedom, friendly, smart, and loving.  The first main characteristic of the Dolphin that will be talked about is the friendly aspect.

Dolphins do not need technology or social websites and devices to make friends.  If a Dolphin can live a great life without it why should a human need these things?  Over time social sites have removed the main aspect of becoming friends by hiding behind a screen where Dolphins swim up to them and have the courage to talk to them.

Courage is also a main reason Dolphins symbolize our Utopia because there is no courage needed by communicating socially.  Whereas humans, we are meant to interact in person, rather than behind a computer screen.  Courage is also used by Dolphins in the sense of exploration because with electronics being used as much as they are, with all the cell phones, and texting and things, they have no real journey to meeting someone and actually getting to know them.

The Dolphin is a very smart mammal, which ties into our Utopia where electronics are not needed to gain knowledge.  Knowledge is gained by learning from your parents and in this Utopia; every man/woman is born with the required knowledge to live a great fulfilled life.

Dolphins are very loving mammals in the sense of friends and family.  The Dolphins stay with their friends and there family’s to talk to them rather than call/text them.  This shows a great deal toward our utopia.  What is meant by that is our utopia shares communication from writing letters and mailing them.  Although more effort is taken by that, it cuts down on unnecessary technology.  Communication can also be shared face to face, in the sense of staying together in pacts like the Dolphins do.

Dolphins share many characteristics our utopia is trying to get after.  The Dolphin symbolizes the utopia in many great ways.  The Dolphin is a very great mammal with very great aspects.  Aspects our Utopia cherishes.  The ways listed above were very brief, but they were also great examples why the Dolphin, would represent our Utopia, better than any other animal.

Journal Entry #1

Journal,

Today I woke up with the alarm blazing in my ear.  I woke up, got in the shower, and at breakfast.  I was running late for work and I had just been out the door when I forgot my car keys.  It was a crazy morning but I finally got myself up and driving to work.  I realized I was low on gas and had to pull over.  So now my clock is showing that there is no chance of getting to work on time.  After the 25 minute drive to work.  I made it with seconds to spare.

I threw my coat down, and sat in my office chair.  I begin doing my work as a very successful lawyer when all of a sudden cases are just flying at me, all at once, no pauses in between but all at once.  I briefly flip through them, reading what I will be dealing with.  90% of the cases were people holding illegal pieces of technology, 5% was from people breaking the law, 4% of car crashes, and 1% holding illegal drugs/substances.  These were cases I did not want to deal with, like they did not affect me at all.  I finally got the courage to tell the boss I need a break from some of these cases.  He removed about 14 cases from me.  Now I feel light as ever with only 4 cases in front of me.  I had 3 dealing with illegal technology, and one dealing with a robbery.

I finish wrapping up my info after a long day of work and head home.  I meet my kid and ask him what his day was like, asked my wife the same, had a nice warm cup of hot chocolate, and listen to my small portable radio while eating dinner.  I finished up my night writing letters to my parents and my 2 siblings.  I wrote myself a note in my daily planner reminding myself to get stamps the next morning, and also reminded myself to mail the letters while getting the stamps.  I turned out my lights and realized I haven’t showered yet.  I hop out of bed, run and take a quick shower, just to be greeted with a nice warm bedspread on top of my foamed comfy bed.  I tuck myself in, and fall asleep.

                                                                                                                                Yours Truly,

                                                                                                                                                                Kevin

Dear Diary,

Today I had another great day in my new town of Luddite. I’ve been making so many friends, today I made a friend his name is jimmy, he’s an outgoing guy, but everyone here is. Anyway my friends are really nice. Today at school we had a big lesson on writing. We learned how to use proper grammar and how to write letters. I never knew how much fun letter writing could be!

In the second half of the day my class took a field trip to a library. There are so many books at the library; it also makes me feel so smart. After my trip with my class I went home, I walked home with all my new friends in my class. When I got home I changed and went on a walk through the forest with jimmy. We talked about so much and I and he are already such close friends after one day. I guess it’s because we talk so much.

After my walk, I went to the main part of town and looked at the bulletin board for games and activities. I spend a long time debating between all the different choices! I finally went to a fun game of soccer with my buddies. It started to get dark soon so I went home and had dinner. Around 9ish I went to bed after I wrote a few letters to my family. I had such a great day today journal and I can’t wait to see what I can do with tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Jerry

Dear Sarah,

I have just started living in Luddite and I’m loving minute of it! Life here is so natural, easy going and independent! I think you should really consider coming and living here with me, but I’ll tell you a bit about it

Luddite is a little village with around 1000 people, the atmosphere here is great. Every one lives so close and everyone knows each other it’s like a big family! We have such a good relationship with others since there is no technology here. We actually go out to hangout and talk; the conversations are more real instead of over the lousy phone or text.

The environment is so beautiful and such a sight to see! Without all the development and store and places of technology there is more place of nature. Many people in my village love to go on nature walks and see what we have without the destruction of humans, this is one of my favourite parts of Luddite.

Families have been getting split up more and more due to temptations and improvements of technology. In Luddite we have bigger and stronger families than most places; the idea of actually talking to someone makes every relationship with one another stronger and more meaningful.

In our village we have many different ways to spend your day instead of on the internet you can write letters to family and friend that are more meaningful than a text tweet or a message. You can also go to the many libraries to read for educational or fun purposes. There are also many activities and community schedule planned events to keep busy.

Coming to Luddite was a great choice for me and my family! This village is so welcoming and natural. Anyone including you should come and make this your home because with all these things to do and improvements who wouldn’t want to come live here!
Governing Body
Our Luddite society is lead by a township government. Our current mayor, Mayor Bob Smith is in control of the overall decision-making in this town. Because the town is so small, there are only 20 positions on the chair of the governing body. These people assist with new ideas and plan out the processes in order to carry out new laws and rules in Luddite. The main goal of our governing body is to reduce the use of technology. Each of the chair members is in control of a specific category to help govern the society. For example, C.S. Johnson is the head of the medical institute, and deals with the free healthcare program in our system, and also deals with all the problems at the hospitals. The head of Luddite Post, CJ Liam, is responsible for brainstorming ideas that would help all the letters and mail be sent out to all citizens as efficiently as possible. Not to mention the head of the Work force chair, the head of the Money chair, and fifteen other chairs. Under each chair, are a couple assistant chairs who help out the chairs. Together, they all work together to create a well efficient city system.
The governing body makes quick decisions based on the demands of people in society. If the community sees something is wrong or is not working out, they will file a complaint to the Mayor, and he will see to everyone’s problem as quickly as possible. When he does, he will specify this complaint to a specific chair and they will fix the problem, or find a solution. Then, all the government chair members will have a meeting to decide whether they agree with solution the specific chair has made. When they’ve all come to an agreement, the Mayor will say the final statement on the radio and print out copies of the new laws. This of course happens many at a time, and these meetings may be hours long depending on how many problems the citizens filed.
Also, not only do we have meetings to discuss problems with society, we have monthly meetings on the second last day of every month to discuss everything’ what’s going on with the entire financial, medical, environmental, international, ect, aspects of Luddite. These meetings are beneficial and really make our society a strong and friendly place to live in.
